How can one go between Frankfurt am Main International Airport and downtown?

There are 2 train stations located at Frankfurt am Main International Airport. One station is located in Terminal 1, Level 1 and services the S-Bahn. Local trains depart from platforms 1, 2 and 3. Any S-Bahn (S8 or S9) train will take you to the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main train station) in less than 15 minutes and cost €4 or less for a one-way single fare. Once in Frankfurt, you can easily connect to other parts of town via public transit.

It is important not to confuse the local trains with the long distance trains available at the AIRail station, also located in Terminal 1. These trains depart from platforms 4 through 7. While some of the long-distance trains do travel to Frankfurt, they're more expensive than the S-Bahn.

A bus station is located outside the Arrivals Hall of Terminals 1 and 2. Only a smaller number of buses stop at Terminal 2. So, for the widest variety, taking a bus from Terminal 1 is a better choice. A listing of the buses that serve the airport is available here.

Please note that Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by way of the free SkyLine inter-terminal tram.

Frankfurt Airport is only about 8 miles southwest of downtown and taxi rides cost roughly €25 and take 20 minutes in good traffic conditions. Because of the proximity to downtown, many hotels offer free shulttle service to and from the airport. So, be sure to check with your hotel prior to your arrival.
