How can one go between Suvarnabhumi Airport and downtown Bangkok?

Suvarnabhumi International Airport is about 15 miles east of downtown Bangkok and offers a number of transportation options.

The Four Airport Express bus connects the airport with major downtown hotels and attractions. The service runs from 5am to midnight and can be found on Level 1 near Entrance 8 of the airport. One-way fares cost 150 Baht.

A dozen public buses serve the airport 24 hours a day with drop-off and pick-up at the airport's Public Transportation Center. Passengers can use the free intra-airport shuttle to go between the terminal and the transit center. Bus fare to central Bangkok costs 35 Baht, about US$1.

Taxis are available on Level 1 of the airport and cost around 200 to 400 Baht depending on traffic and your final destination. The estimated cost includes a 50 Baht airport surcharge and expressway toll charges of up to about 65 Baht. The journey takes about 30 to 40 minutes in good traffic conditions but can take up to 2 hours during one of Bangkok's many traffic jams. Flat-rate limos are available from Level 2 near the Baggage Claim. Rates range between a couple thousand and a few thousand Baht.

An express train, the Suvarnabhumi Airport Express, is being built to serve the airport and the downtown area. The current estimated completion date is November 2008 with the train intended to transport passengers between downtown and the airport in about 15 minutes.
