How child-friendly are the cable cars in San Francisco?

While children are likely to enjoy riding the cable cars, doing so requires extra caution. Because of the open seating and standing room on the front sides, it's important to encourage your children to always have a handhold and to never jump on or off the cable car, especially while it's moving. If you're concerned that your children may not be able to resist the temptation, you may want to take advantage of the enclosed rear of the car. Please be aware that strollers are not allowed on the cable cars. So, if a stroller is a must you may wish to take the historic trams on the F Line that runs from Fisherman's Wharf into downtown and up Market Street until Castro Street. Not only are strollers allowed but the tram line is also cheaper and offers transfers for municipal buses.
