Is it advisable to rent a car when visiting Bangkok?Although Bangkok's public transportation infrastructure may not be as
extensive as other cities of its size, it is not advisable to drive
during your visit. Most tourist spots are accessible by the elevated
Skytrain or the city's subway. Taxis are plentiful and relatively
cheap. Another reason to avoid driving in Bangkok is that its surface
traffic can be very heavy and chaotic. It can take a lot of time
and energy to drive most places of interest. If you must have a private car, we recommend hiring a car service. Finally, the Thais drive on the left side
of the road, making it more difficult for North American and most European drivers to
adapt. If you plan to drive in Thailand be sure to check on licensing
requirements and insurance coverage. last updated 2008.10.24
