Is it advisable to rent a car when visiting Vancouver?Vancouver has an extensive public transportation system which reaches
many tourist attractions. Subsequently, a rental car is generally not
necessary. It can be costly to park downtown, with many hotels charging
upwards of C$20 per day for parking. Should you have a need to
drive, Canada drives on the right side of the road, the same as the
U.S., and Vancouver uses a grid system which makes it relatively easy to
navigate. Please note that in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics,
construction is common in the area. So, it's advisable to check road
conditions in advance. As with driving in any foreign country, check
local licensing requirements and confirm insurance coverage with your
insurer. last updated 2008.10.29
