What are some tips for airport security checkpoints when traveling with children?

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has published the following guidelines on traveling with children.  As the waiting time at security checkpoints varies, try to have your children use the facilities prior to getting in line.  It will also help for them to be well rested and well fed before your flight.  Bring something to entertain them both before and on the airplane, preferably something that doesn't disturb other travelers such as by avoiding loud toys and games.

Be sure to allow extra time when traveling with children, as airlines generally have families with young children board first.  It is always a good idea to check the status of your flight in order to avoid unnecessarily waiting at the airport if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
