What is a type G electrical socket and plug?

Type "G" electrical sockets are found in the United Kingdom and many British Commonwealth countries. They often have flush casings and so require the large girth of their prongs to better secure plugs in their sockets. Plugs consist of three elongated, rectangular prongs with tapered ends. The grounding prong is longer and wider than that of the remaining two prongs. The shape of both plugs and casings tend to vary substantially. So, the round border at left is meant only as an example of an outlet and should not be relied upon as a representation of all type "G" outlets.
