This means that to call the Dominican Republic from North America one would need only dial 1-809-xxx-xxxx or 1-829-xxx-xxxx. Because these numbers appear similar to the current toll-free area codes of 800, 866, 877, 888 and the possible future toll-free area codes of 855, 844, 833 and 822, it is important to remember that these calls are indeed considered long-distance toll calls.
