Where can I learn about the history of cable cars in San Francisco?

The best place to learn about cable cars in San Francisco is the Cable Car Museum on the corner of Mason and Washington Streets. The best way to get there is, not surprisingly, to take a cable car. Both the Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason lines stop directly in front of the museum when going towards downtown and stop one block away when going away from downtown. While the Cable Car Museum does not charge a fee, please remember that individual cable car fares do not provide for transfers. So, we advise purchasing a daily or multi-day pass prior to boarding. For more information about the museum, you can visit www.cablecarmuseum.org.
