Which airports serve the Washington DC metropolitan area?

The Washington D.C. metro area is served by two major airports, Washignton Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA).  It is also only about 30 miles from Batimore-Washington International Aiport (BWI) in Maryland.  If you are traveling to downtown DC, National Airport is a convenient choice due to its having a metro stop directly at the airport that can take you downtown in under 30 minutes.  Dulles, however, is a much larger airport and offers more international flights and connections.  Additionally, if you are visiting the outer suburbs and need to rent a car, Dulles is often a better choice due to its location in suburban Virginia far from the traffic of downtown D.C. However, even in the outer suburbs you should expect traffic to generally be substantial.
